Minutes ago, the official Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival Twitter tweeted the official lineup for the upcoming 2012 mega music festival. While the festival has notoriously added and subtracted acts well after the first lineup announcement, the current roster is nonetheless mind-blowing for indie, hip-hop, rock and dance fans alike!

The lineup as it stands includes cult favorites like long-retired Swedish post-punk band Refused, the recently reunited Brit-pop band Pulp and 90s alt band Mazzy Star, along with " Best Of 2011" artists like Frank Ocean and tUnE yArDs. Headlining not surprisingly are Coachella alums the Black Keys (who played at last year's fest) and Radiohead (who played in 2004). Snoop Dogg had a cameo at Coachella 2010 on-screen with Gorillaz, which could count as an appearance since Gorillaz themselves technically can only appear on a screen. The big difference this year compared to others is that the raucous, heat stroke-inducing festival will operate for not one, but two sonic hedonism-filled weekends, repeating the exact same lineup.

Hardly foreign to questionable practices, the festival began to sell pre-sale tickets for the 2012 shows back in June, just a month after Coachella 2011 ended. The big catch? The 3-day passes (starting at about $315.00 with fees each) we being sold without an official lineup being known. Still, for the one week that Coachella had their 2012 presale, there was no lack for buyers. Music-hungry fans sometimes waited hours in online queues to get their tickets. While many whined about the audacity of selling tickets before the acts were revealed, it was nonetheless a testament to the festival's enormous popularity that people still rushed to buy. Even just after the long-awaited official announcement, there was difficulty loading the Coachella official website was due to the inevitable traffic surge.

The compelling thing about double-booking the festival is that along with more chances to catch performances, many of the musicians like David Guetta, Cat Power and Noel Gallagher are likely to be loitering around the Indio/Palm Springs area in between weekends. It could be a prime time to go star gazing, as the desert will be in a tizzy with celebrity-drenched, guestlist-only pool parties sponsored by fashion houses, drink brands, tech companies and who knows what else. I predict it will be like the wild west of party-chasing, so get your guns (and by guns, I mean Instagram) ready.

What's missing from the lineup is one of the most prevalently rumored Coachella 2012 acts, No Doubt. But knowing Coachella, the Gwen Stefani-headed band may appear as a secret surprise guest as Madonna and Beck have in previous years. Whatever happens, Coachella this year is bound to be an insane time and now that it's stretched over six days, festival-goers better pack a first aid kit.
