Who would've thought that Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor could be so pop friendly? A mash-up of Reznor's "Head Like A Hole" and Carly Rae Jepsen's diabetes-inducing monster hit "Call Me Maybe" has been making the internet rounds this week to the groans of hard rock fans and LOLs of well, most everyone else.
Soundcloud user pomDeterrific took Jepsen's contagious track and replaced the vocals with Reznor's lyrics ever so effortlessly. If one somehow never heard either song before, "Call Me A Hole" (ick) could totally pass under the humor radar. The mash-up is such a violation to both pop and hard rock purists, but it's just... so good!
With lines like, "God money's not concerned about the sick among the pure / God money let's go dancing on the backs of the bruised", NIN's oft stirring lyrics are utterly and hilariously stripped of their power when paired with the pop track. It's like genetics: tracks are dominant, vocals are recessive. No matter what words you could layer over "Call Me Maybe"--the State of the Union Address, Shakespeare, 911 calls--we're gonna dance against our will.
While we're at it, check out a pretty terrifying metal version of "Call Me Maybe"!
