First it was Katy Perry. Now it's Britney Spears who's doing "the smurf."
That's right, Ms. Spears has revealed her new track, "Ooh La La," which will be featured on the soundtrack for The Smurfs 2, which opens on July 31.
The song begins with that sweet and innocent voice we all fell in love with years ago before ratcheting it up with an aggressive rap/chant section and electronic effects, and then returning to that sugary-sweet classic Brit in the chorus.
While Spears is just delivering a track – and likely an accompanying video –Katy Perry is going full-on Smurf once again, voicing the character of Smurfette.
The first Smurfs movie was a surprise hit, pulling in $35 million in its opening week at the box office in 2011. It eventually raked in $563 worldwide.
Meanwhile, Spears is about to get busy with executive producer Will.i.am on her eighth studio album. "We start next week," he told Billboard. "Before we even start we've had these juicy sessions, where we've been bonding, building trust and comfort. I've never worked like this before – not even [with] the [Black Eyed] Peas."
In other Britney news, she just reminded fans yesterday that it's been 13 years since Oops!...I Did It Again came out, posting the album's cover on Facebook along with the message, "'Oops…' is now a teenager, my goodness. Happy 13th!"
