Beyonce's father, Mathew Knowles, is not at all happy with the way British tabloid the Sun portrayed his relationship with his daughter in a recent article. Knowles filed a lawsuit in Houston's U.S. district court against the Sun for "knowingly and maliciously" misrepresenting his relationship with the pop star.

The 62-year-old and his lawyer claim that the Sun's editors changed what was originally a quote about Knowles severing professional ties with his daughter into a sensationalized story about the father and daughter having a personal rift. Knowles is a music industry executive who managed his daughter until 2011, and also managed her former band, Destiny's Child.

Knowles is seeking actual and punitive damages, plus legal fees, according to the Guardian. The court documents allege that editors at the Sun made significant changes to an article by writer Georgina Dickinson in March, transforming "a well-rounded picture of Mr. Knowles" into a story about a "split" and a "rift."

Court papers claim: "Dickinson's unpublished story discusses how Knowles and his daughter 'severed professional ties', but that, 'thankfully despite their professional split he remains close to his family and loves nothing more than being a granddad to his daughter's newborn baby girl." The lawyers continue, "The Sun changes this to a 'bitter rift with his famous daughter – admitting he is devastated at being pushed out of her life."

The Sun story also alleges that Knowles had not yet met his granddaughter, Blue Ivy, but his lawyers say that was completely made up.

Knowles and his company are also going after the Sun for breach of contract, claiming the paper had agreed to pay him in exchange for giving them an exclusive U.K. interview. They contend he never received his fee.
