Most consider animated films kids' stuff, but for Beyoncé, working on the forthcoming animated movie Epic was serious and emotional business.

In the film, Queen B voices the character of Queen Tara. It was her first gig after giving birth to her and Jay-Z's daughter, Blue Ivy, and she was still battling raging baby hormones.

"I literally had tears," Beyoncé said in an interview with E! News. "It was the first job I had after giving birth, and I felt really hormonal, and I was so emotional. There's a scene when Queen Tara picks out her pod and I just imagined seeing my child."

Bey also found inspiration in her animated alter-ego. "I was so connected to Queen Tara," she said, "because she has so much grace and was really inspiring for me to see how she used her power and was so charming and kind of didn't take herself very serious and made everyone feel they were at ease. It's beautiful."

You can judge for yourself when the film, from the creators of Ice Age and Rio, opens May 22 in the U.S.
