In a singing-show era when most networks are scrambling to stunt-cast celebrity judges, ABC has flipped the script and greenlit a sure-to-be-amazing new talent show called "Sing Your Face Off," which — in the grand and noble tradition of novelty shows like "Celebrity Duets," "Gone Country," and "But Can They Sing?" — will feature a wonderfully random assortment of semi-famous faces on the stage, not behind the judging table.
Please note, before you read on, that this is not The Onion. This is an actual, factual Yahoo! Music article that you're reading right now. This show is real.
So, get this: According to EW, "Sing Your Face Off" will have "five celebrity contestants take on the identity of an iconic music performer each week." The judges will be Deborah Gibson and "Saturday Night Live" alum Darrell Hammond. The host will be "Torchwood"/"Doctor Who" actor John Barrowman. And the contestants will be Sebastian Bach, Jon Lovitz, the Toronto Raptors' Landry Fields, Disney star China Anne McClain, and ubiquitous reality fixture Lisa Rinna.
Seriously, I am not making this up. I sure hope EW isn't making this up. I want to watch this show!
ABC has not announced an airdate yet, but I'm already betting on Sebastian Bach for the win. The mouthy ex-Skid Row mouthpiece is a regular on this sort of pleasantly brain-cell-liquefying niche programming. And there's no denying that he's fascinating television:
Besides starring in one of the greatest reality shows ever, VH1's "Supergroup" (everybody, now: SAVAGE ANIMAL!!) and losing 18 pounds on VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club," Sebastian came in third on MTV's "Celebrity Rap Superstar" (he lost to K-Fed's ex, Shar Jackson) and actually won CMT's "Gone Country 2." The man's a pro.
Check out a couple more stellar singing-show moments from Sebastian, while I excuse myself to go set my DVR now...
