6 Ways To Get Excited for the American Music Awards
There's a slew of reasons to stay psyched for the 2013 American Music Awards as they draw near. The star-studded telecast will feature performances from TLC, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and more. Here are six reasons to amp yourself up for the festivities, scheduled to air Sunday, Nov. 24 (8PM EST/PST).
6. Re-learn the lyrics to "No Scrubs"
The beloved ( and now biopic'd) girl group is set to take the stage at this year's AMAs, which should strike excitement into the nostalgic hearts of '90s kids the world over. T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chilli made history back in '99 with their girl-powered hit "No Scrubs," which was accompanied by some seriously slick dance moves. Re-learn the definition of a scrub (hint: a guy that "can't get no love" from you) in time for the AMAs, and you'll be good to go for the inevitable singalong.
5. Get reacquainted with Miley's talent (no twerking necessary)
By now it's no secret that Miley Cyrus is well-versed in the art of the shock. But in light of recent events, you may be surprised to learn what will be the true highlight of her AMAs performance — no teddies or twerking involved! "I know some people on her team are pushing her to go in a totally different direction and flip the script completely," a source told Hollywoodlife.com. "Instead of going for shock value, they want her to do something really classy that showcases her amazing voice." What amazing voice, you ask? The same one that belted out her poignant cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene." Check it out here.
4. Study up on the awesomeness of Celia Cruz
Cuban salsa legend Celia Cruz (1925-2003) is recognized as the "Queen of Salsa," and for good reason. The singer recorded 23 gold albums and brought a sense of vibrant individuality to everything she did throughout her career. Just check out the outfit she rocked in the music video for one of her last singles, "La Negra Tiene Tumbao!" Jennifer Lopez will pay tribute to the icon at this year's AMAs...so a quick brush-up on some of the Cruz songs she'll likely perform is a perfect way to get pumped.
