BMG Expands Partnership With China's Alibaba Music

China-based digital music service Alibaba Music has announced an expanded partnership with BMG. The two companies have agreed to a three-year extension of an existing digital distribution deal that gave Alibaba's digital music platforms access to recordings and copyrights by BMG artists including Janet Jackson, Kylie Minogue and Black Sabbath. The deal also includes a provision that will see the companies collaborate in other areas, including film and television.

"We have been very satisfied with the rapid progress we have made in our relationship with Alibaba, surely one of the most innovative and customer-focused businesses in the world," said BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch. "By deepening our relationship with Alibaba we are not only helping to pioneer the new music business in China, we are delivering new revenue for our artists and songwriters."


Alibaba's music platforms include Xiami, Ali Music and Ali Planet, as well as the streaming video giant Youku Tudou.
