Following a flashy performance in a revealing red bodysuit at Sunday's Billboard Music Awards, Jennifer Lopez is flaunting her more serious side, announcing a business partnership with Verizon Wireless.
J.Lo's new company, Viva Movil, will market mobile phones and services to the rapidly growing Latino community in the United States. The "Jenny From the Block" star announced her partnership with Verizon at a Las Vegas press conference on Wednesday, saying that Viva Movil will be an authorized Verizon reseller and offer the same prices and plans as Verizon stores.
"This new company is here to revolutionize the entire mobile experience for Latinos," Lopez said. "There's no specific place for Latinos to be specifically catered to. We will continuously evolve the wireless shopping experience with Verizon Wireless' guidance and support."
Lopez said the first store will open in New York on June 15. While she didn't disclose the exact location, she traced a square in the air, hinting that Times Square might be the spot, reports the New York Post. She also announced plans for the company to open 15 stores in major markets throughout the U.S., including Los Angeles and Miami.
She added that the stores will cater to families and Spanish speakers, providing bilingual staff and a children's play area.
Lopez will serve as chief creative officer of Viva Movil, and is a majority owner in the company. She said that fans and customers can connect with her via Viva Movil's Facebook page (presumably using mobile phones from Viva Movil)!
