Forget about the royal baby. A new baby has been born into "American Idol" royalty: Prince Oliver of Arkansas. Yes, Season 8 "Idol" winner Kris Allen and his wife of almost five years, Katy O'Connell Allen, have just welcomed their first child, a 7 pound, 7 ounce boy named Oliver Allen, born July 30.
Shortly after the birth announcement, Kris tweeted a photo of himself in hospital scrubs, declaring them "the best outfit I'll ever wear" and July 30 "the best day of my life," adding, "Happy Day!!!! My little stud was born today. Oliver is here people!"
Oliver's birth marks the midway point of an extremely eventful year for the Allens. 2013 began with a literal bang, when Kris, Katy, and their dog Zorro were in a serious car accident on New Year's Day. That day, Kris tweeted about Katy's pregnancy, which had not yet been announced, and thanked "American Idol" sponsor Ford for equipping him with a car that kept his growing family safe.
Although the Allens thankfully emerged from the wreckage relatively unscathed, Kris broke his wrist and was unable to play guitar on his fittingly titled Out Alive Tour later that month; he has since endured three surgeries, after his wrist failed to properly heal after his first operation.
"My surgery will leave me with limited movement for the rest of my life but will take away the pain and give me most of my strength back," Kris posted on his website back in May before his second surgery. "I will be fine. After everything is healed, I will be able to play guitar. I will be able to play piano. I will be able to throw a baseball with my kid. I will be able to do the things that I love to do. Just not a proper push-up." Kris underwent his third and hopefully final wrist operation in late June.
But this week, Kris obviously had a much happier reason for visiting a hospital. Congratulations to the Allens and their royal "Idol" baby!
