Back in October of 2012, country superstar Jason Aldean was caught in a sticky situation on camera--apparently making out with "American Idol" competitor Brittany Kerr, a gal who was not his wife and mother of his two young daughters.
Aldean handled the incident with uncommon tact, addressing his followers on social media immediately following the scandal with a straightforward message about how he "screwed up" as a result of having one too many to drink.
He appeared largely forgiven--by his fans as well as his spouse, who showed up with him on CBS This Morning to discuss the incident-- in a remarkably short period of time.
However, it seems the damage may have ran deeper than initially portrayed. Us Weekly is reporting exclusively that Aldean and wife Jessica Ussery are actually separating in the wake of the scandal.
A source for the outlet says that the pair, who have been together since high school and married since 2001, have been separated since January.
Us reports that a rep for Aldean confirms that the couple are not in a good spot at the moment: "I can confirm that Jason and his wife are having problems, but there is nothing more to share at this time," the rep says. "It's a private family matter, and we hope everyone will respect that he would like to keep it that way."
Aldean noted to Our Country in October that balancing family life and a rapidly rising career can be challenging. "My two daughters were born right in the middle of [my success]," he notes. "You have to figure out ways to make it work, and it's not always easy."
The Grammy-nominated star, 36, most recently won the Male Vocalist of the Year title at the 2013 Academy of Country Music Awards earlier in April. He is up for Top Male Artist, as well as two other awards, at next month's Billboard Music Awards.
