Leave it to Morrissey to make even beach babe Pamela Anderson look morose. The former Smiths frontman recruited the former "Baywatch" star to appear in the spoken-word teaser for his upcoming tune, "Earth Is the Loneliest Planet."
In the 60-second clip, the pair stand atop the Capitol Records building in Hollywood looking out over the Los Angeles skyline. Anderson, sans bikini and sporting a layered, pixie haircut, looks up at the sky and gazes out at the view, as Morrissey wanders around looking as lonely and dejected as the song's title suggests.
The video was reportedly directed by Natalie Johns, who also directed the recent spoken-word teaser for the title track of Moz's forthcoming album, World Peace Is None of Your Business.
In true Morrissey fashion, the lyrics to "Earth Is the Loneliest Planet" are typically glum: "You fail as a woman, and you lose as a man…/Earth is the cruelest place that you'll never understand," he recites in the video. But judging from fan footage taken at a recent Morrissey concert where he previewed the new track and introduced it by saying, "I have traveled extensively in my very young life and I have discovered that Earth is the loneliest planet," the song's dark sentiments are disguised by upbeat music and some rousing Spanish guitars.
While Anderson may seem an odd choice to team up with the British crooner, they both share a major passion – animal rights. Both are famed vegetarians and have appeared in ads for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as well as on the non-profit organization's vegetarian celebrity stamps.
"World Peace Is None of Your Business" is due to be released July 15, and Morrissey is currently playing a string of sold-out shows across the U.S.
