At a recent concert in Vancouver, the legendary Grammy award-winning singer Patti LaBelle body checked and then ejected a fan off stage after his dancing veered into more PG-13-rated territory.
It started when he began unbuttoning his shirt during a performance of “Lady Marmalade," which caused Patti to respond with a stern warning, saying, “Don’t you dare, not on my stage…I am not Nicki Minaj or that little Miley."
With the audience cheering, it’s possible that the fan interpreted her warning for playful banter, although it’s never wise to present your rear end to a 71-year-old American icon.
After the fan was promptly taken care of, LaBelle apologized for her bad language, blaming it on her being a Gemini.
Now, this isn’t the first time the singer has reprimanded and removed a fan for bad behavior. In 2007, also during a performance of “Lady Marmalade,” a fan commented to LaBelle that she seemed to be enjoying his dancing more than him. That set off a very similar tirade, although she made a more relevant 2007 celebrity reference to replace Minaj and Miley. She told him: “You’re rude! You’re very freakin’ rude! This is not Lil’ Kim, OK? I don’t play that.”
LaBelle is performing tonight in Washington state, and hopefully any fans invited onstage know the rules.
