The Grammy Awards aren't till this Sunday, but six-time 2013 nominees fun. have already made Grammy history, as they're only the ninth artist in the awards' entire 55 years--and the first rock group--to be nominated in all four of the top categories (Record, Song, and Album Of The Year, plus Best New Artist). While most casual fans probably think of fun. as a brand-new band, they're in fact indie veterans--frontman Nate Ruess was in the Format for eight years; guitarist Jack Antonoff released three albums with his band, Steel Train; and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Dost put out four albums with his band, Anathallo. But collectively as fun., the guys' time in the mainstream spotlight has finally arrived.
Yahoo! Music caught up with the band backstage this past Monday, at a private Grammy-week kickoff event at Beverly Hills' SLS Hotel hosted by Delta, as part of the airline's "Nonstop NYC Social Media Challenge." There, Nate, Jack, and Andrew talked about their not-so-overnight success; their famous Taco Bell Super Bowl commercial; the honor of being included in an unusually hip Grammy year with fellow nominees like Jack White, the Lumineers, Ed Sheeran, and Alabama Shakes; and their dream Grammy duet with a certain classic rock band (sadly, that collaboration isn't happening...but there's always next year's Grammys, right?).
