Big Sean, Drake & Kanye See the Light in ‘Blessings’ Video

If the video for Big Sean’s “Blessings” with Drake and Kanye West was watched on mute, the message might be misinterpreted. Despite their lyrics that express gratitude for their triumphs, the video directed by Darren Craig looks menacing, shot against a dark-sky backdrop with barely enough lighting to capture the rappers.

Big Sean appears in a confession booth, seemingly admitting his transgressions to a clone of himself dressed in all white. Drake simply raps centerstage, and Kanye emerges with his hands wrapped like a boxer.

There are indications, however, that there’s a deeper meaning. Big Sean sometimes raps in front of a white stairway that leads into the clouds, and each rapper takes time to look above to a looming light to give thanks. Maybe this is their way of acknowledging that they don’t take their successes for granted?
