Silent Hills may have been canceled and Outlast II may have been pushed into 2017, but PlayStation 4 owners will still be able to scare themselves to the point of hysteria with Amnesia: Collection.
Bundling together Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, and the Portal 2 promotional game Amnesia: Justine, Amnesia: Collection will see the series come to consoles for the very first time on November 22.
In the official announcement on the PlayStation Blog, creative director Thomas Grip credits online communities such as Reddit with helping to make the first Amnesia game, The Dark Descent, such a smashing success. He also calls attention to the YouTube Let’s Players who helped to promote the game through that group’s videos. In fact, the Amnesia: Collection announcement trailer, viewable above, is simply a compilation of several gamers’ reactions to the game’s horror scenes. If you’re not a fan of loud screaming or spookiness, we advise you not to watch it.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent was released back in 2011 to rave reviews, with many calling it one of the scariest games of all time. It kicked off a trend of “you’re going to die” horror games that saw players under-equipped and forced to run away from danger instead of confronting it directly in the manner of the recent Resident Evil games.
The game’s sequel, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, was developed by Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture studio The Chinese Room, and wasn’t as positively received. Many critics thought the game wasn’t as scary as the original, especially as Slender and other related games began to gain popularity.
Amnesia: Justine, the third game included in the collection, is a shorter experience taking place over several “trials” and draws influence from the Saw film franchise.
“Together, all three games should provide a wide range of horrors for all PS4 players to face, and I hope it’ll produce many pleasant nightmares and sleepless nights upon release!” says Grip.
We’re not exactly sure what a “pleasant nightmare” is, but are you ready to jump back into the terrifying world of Amnesia? Let us know in the comments!
