'American Idol,' The Day After: Dishing About ’80s Week

Last night’s American Idol ’80s-themed show was perhaps the most “bonkers,” as cheeky guest mentor Boy George put it, in the series’ history. The Hoff sang an ’80s medley, J.Lo slapped Harry Connick Jr.’s rump while Salt N Pepa pushed it real good, and the top 11 contestants made the show’s graying fanbase feel positively ancient thanks to their complete unfamiliarity with Alf, Thighmasters, and Glo-Worms. Who doesn’t know Alf?

But let’s get serious, folks. Nine contestants sang last night, while two (Adanna Duru and Maddie Walker) sadly went home without ever getting the chance to sing their respective ’80s songs, Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You” and Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” As for contestants who got the chance to perform, some of them were totally bitchen, while others were kind of gnarly.

Here today to discuss this week’s ’80s antics is Season 6 alum and former TV Guide Channel Idol correspondent Brandon Rogers. Watch us dish about all this and more in today’s episode of “The Day After” now!
