Album Premiere: Hear Animotion's First New Set in 26 Years

On January 20, ’80s sensations Animotion will release Raise Your Expectations, their first studio album in 26 years. Newly reformed, with the lineup including both original front-people, Bill Wadhams and Astrid Plane, Animotion’s latest project will include a set of originals, plus a new version of one of their signature hits, “Let Him Go.”

Yahoo Music is excited to offer fans a first listen to the entire album in advance of its release.

“It took a series of fortunate events to make the album,” Wadhams tells Yahoo Music. “In 2014 I heard a remix of ‘Obsession’ by a young DJ from Colorado named Joman. I was so impressed that I reached out to him. He responded by offering to remix new material, so I sent him our home recording of ‘Raise.’ He reconstructed the drums and bass, adding his remix magic and delivered the song as it’s now heard on the album. Based on that track, Charles Kennedy at Invisible Hands Music in London offered us a deal, and we were off and running.

“Our lead guitarist Don introduced us to producer/writer Chuck Kentis (the musical director for Rod Stewart’s band). The two of them had written some music that they thought would be appropriate for the album. Astrid, Greg, and I got together with them in Chuck’s studio. The chemistry proved successful as we wrote and recorded eight tracks together.

“Some of the songs, like ‘They Can’t Touch You,’ ‘Everything,’ and ‘Surrender’ have deep meaning for us personally, and some, like ‘Bad Review’ and ‘Love You Better,’ are just plain fun. ‘Last Time’ and ‘Not Your Lover’ are collaborations with Avery Kentis, Chuck’s son. Joman produced ‘You Love It’ and a remake of ‘Let Him Go.’ I hope this album reaches fans of Animotion around the world. We’ve had a great time working together.”

Animotion has been keeping busy touring the U.S. with some of their fellow ’80s new wave compadres such as Berlin, Thompson Twins, Wang Chung, and more. To keep up with their schedule, check here.
