Ah, Push It! Salt-N-Pepa Makes Comeback in Geico Commercial

Salt-N-Pepa’s long-anticipated reunion just might happen now that the pioneering hip-hop trio is starring in a hilarious new Geico Insurance commercial. Cheryl “Salt” James, Sandra “Pepa” Denton, and Deidra “DJ Spinderella” Roper revitalize their 1987 hit “Push It” for the 30-second advertisement.

In the video, the platinum divas pop up on unsuspecting people to remind them to “Push It” when it counts: when opening a door, selecting a floor in an elevator, having a baby, or using a tackling sled during football practice. The ladies bring plenty of nostalgia in their signature biker pants, custom letterman jackets, and game face.

The Grammy- and VMA-winning group released its last album, Brand New, in 1997. Though they starred in their own VH1 reality series, The Salt-N-Pepa Show, in 2007, and have since toured and performed on award shows, they have not released any new music.

In January, Spinderella told Vibe magazine that the group had been in “discussion mode” regarding making a comeback. “We got a couple things on the table that we’re going to be talking about.”
