A$AP Rocky’s Samsung Commercial Gets Video Music Awards Spoof
A$AP Rocky has already put a spin on his brand-new Samsung commercial, which debuted Saturday. In the original advertisement, the New York rapper compares the features of Samsung’s Galaxy Note5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+. In the spirit of the MTV Video Music Awards airing live Sunday, the VMA trophy distracts Lord Flacko.
After looking at both phones, the “Everyday” rapper becomes enamored with the silver Moonman statue. While holding a Note5 in his left hand, he jokingly ponders stealing a Moonman before zooming in on the astronaut’s boots. “Wait, what are those?” he asks for comic relief.
Aside from the Moonman joke, Rocky knows his shoes, and uses a related analogy to explain the commercial’s comparison-shopping storyline. “Pretend like this is ’96 and Jordan put out the double package,” he tells Yahoo Music. “You would just lose your mind. You’d be like, ‘Man, I can’t afford both.’ You point out the qualities of each and specify with that.”
A$AP says Samsung “picked the best person” for the ad. “I speak to the average person.”
