Last year, Atlanta's rising crooner 6lack gained traction for his acclaimed project Free 6lack. In hopes of ascending the R&B hierarchy, 6lack took his talents to The Late Late Show With James Corden to perform "PRBLMS" on Thursday (April 20). Backed by a live band and a moody backdrop, the 24-year-old nailed a rock-like performance of his breakout hit.
The performance follows 6lack's latest spot in Apple Music's Up Next series. Each month, new artists will be given resources to accelerate their growth. First, they'll sit-down with Beats 1's Zane Lowe for an interview, followed by an opportunity to grace the stage on The Late Late Show. Apple Music will also promote the artist's music on their playlists and in the iTunes store.
6lack recently sat down with Lowe to speak on his beginnings as a battle rapper, and how it helped him transition into a R&B singer. "I kinda feel like battle rap gave me all the tools I needed to write songs today," 6lack told Lowe. "Battle rap is about how much you can say and putting so many different words and expressions together to get your point across, and songwriting is like, 'How can I get that same point across, but by saying less?'"
