6 God: Toronto To Give Drake The Key To The City
Drake has been putting on for his city since his introduction into the rap game through songs and reaching back to help promote native artists. Now, the Toronto native will receive the keys to his hometown.
According to Mayor John Tory, the “Summer Sixteen” rapper is more than deserving of this honor. “This is a man who could live anywhere, but calls Toronto home,” he said. “He wants us to be proud of him. And we are. I am.”
Mayor Tory later continued to praise Drizzy’s hometown pride by referencing his desire to cement Toronto’s musical presence in the industry. “He talked about wanting to contribute & for the city to see him as more than just a name — but a force of good,” he said. “He talked about his desire to build our music scene, to inspire youth and help address the social issues felt across Toronto.”
I was lucky recently to spend time with a man who is well known in our city and around the world.

I knew his name, I knew his face & I knew his music. And we wanted the chance to get to know one another, and talk about the city we love.

In our conversations, he told me how he feels about Toronto. He told me what it means to him to be from here, and the role he wants to play.

This is a man who has achieved wild success, by any standard. And more than anything, he wants great things for Toronto.

Toronto must tell its stories. We must celebrate our talent & harness it for change. This isn’t swagger. It is key. pic.twitter.com/GZZXD0cg0r

Drake will head back up North for the NBA’s All-Star weekend (Feb. 12-14) festivities and will drop his Views From The 6 album in April. During an airing of his OVO Sound Radio on Beats 1, he said “it was that time, start setting that tone” for the album’s rollout.
There’s no release date as of yet, but hopefully in the coming weeks Drake might bless your mp3’s with new tunes.
