'X-Men: Apocalypse' Trailer Breakdown: So Much Jennifer Lawrence!

Coming soon to a theater near you — superheroes you thought might be allies square off in a mighty battle of explosive powers. No, not Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. No, not Captain America: Civil War. We’re talking X-Men: Apocalypse. 20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for the franchise’s newest installment, and in it we’re seeing a whole lot of new footage from the film. Here are the big things that stood out to us.

Jennifer Lawrence is all over this film. The character of Mystique has been an important one to the X-Men comics, but it’s hard to believe she’d be this prominent if they didn’t cast the world’s most popular actress in the role. In Apocalypse, she’s clearly team captain of the good guys. That being said, we might of gotten a hint of her demise — Lawrence is apparently over being slathered in blue makeup for the role, so a moment between her and Apocalypse when she can’t escape his grip could very well be her departure from the franchise.

Oscar Isaac appears sans blue makeup. Additionally, we got more glimpses of our new X-Men villain, the titular Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac. We even get to see Isaac before he gets the Willy Wonka/Violet Beauregarde treatment. We also see him get a growth spurt and toss around James McAvoy’s Professor X like a rag doll.

More Quicksilver. It also seems director Bryan Singer and Fox heard the positive response to Quicksilver in Days of Future Past, because it appears he’s become a main player in this new feature.

Classic comic book debates get settled. It looks like they’re trying to answer classic comic book fan debates: Who would win in a fight? Beast or Psylocke? Angel or Nightcrawler? Storm or Cyclops? Our patience or a Coldplay cover? Oh yeah — there’s a Coldplay cover in the trailer.
