‘X-Men’ Actress Lana Condor Joins ‘Patriots Day’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Lana Condor, who is making her feature film debut as Jubilee in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” has been cast in Mark Wahlberg’s “Patriots Day,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Condor will be playing the role of an MIT graduate student who is the girlfriend of MIT police officer Sean Collier. The officer was shot to death three days after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing by either Dzhokhar Tsarnaev or Tamerlan Tsarnaev several hours after the FBI published images of the brothers and asked for public help in tracking the bomb suspects down.

Besides Wahlberg, the film also stars John Goodman, J.K. Simmons, Kevin Bacon and Michelle Monaghan. “Patriots Day” is directed by Peter Berg and produced by Wahlberg, Scott Stuber, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Dorothy Aufiero and Michael Radutzky. Shooting has started in Boston.

The film is co-financed by CBS Films and Lionsgate, with the former handling production and marketing, and the latter handling distribution. “In Treatment” star Alex Wolff and Themo Melikidze recently joined the cast as Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

The film is based on accounts from the 2013 bombing, which killed three and injured 264 others, and the ensuing search for the Tsarnaev brothers.

The Jubilee character in “X-Men: Apocalypse” is a mutant student who can generate pyrotechnic energy plasmoids from her hands.

Condor is represented by ICM Partners and attorney Matt Rosen
