‘X-Men’ Actress Lana Condor Joins ‘Alita: Battle Angel’; ‘Pacific Rim’ Sequel Adds Ivanna Sakhno
Lana Condor, who played Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse, has joined the cast of James Cameron’s Alita: Battle Angel directed by Robert Rodriquez. She joins Rosa Salazar, Jackie Earle Haley, Ed Skrein, Eiza Gonzalez and Christoph Waltz in the film adaptation of the graphic novel series Battle Angel Alita by Yukito Kushiro. The futuristic pic tells the story of Alita (Salazar), an amnesiac female cyborg who is rescued from a scrapyard by a doctor (Waltz). The rebuilt Alita, remembering only her training in a deadly martial art, becomes a hunter-warrior, tracking down and eliminating vicious criminals. Cameron penned the script with Laeta Kalogridis. Condor will play Koyomi in the film, which is set up at 20th Century Fox with Lightstorm Entertainment attached to produce. She recently wrapped filming the Peter Berg-directed film Patriots Day with Mark Wahlberg. Condor is repped by ICM and Stone, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder & Christopher.
Ukrainian actress Ivanna Sakhno has signed on to Legendary Pictures’s Pacific Rim 2 alongside John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny and Adria Arjona. Directed by Steven S. DeKnight, the sequel is based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions banner. Cale Boyter will serve as executive producer. Universal is releasing the film February 23, 2018. This will mark Sakhno first venture in American film. The newcomer is known for the Ukrainian-language hits The Body Tree and Ivan The Powerful. Sakhno is repped by Gersh, MJ Management and Warren Dern.
