Will Ferrell Throws Tantrum at NBA Game — for His New Movie

Mark Wahlberg calls foul on Will Ferrell

New Orleans Pelicans fans got a halftime show they’ll never forget at Wednesday’s Pelicans-Lakers game, when a seemingly drunken Will Ferrell stumbled onto the court and pegged a cheerleader in the face with a basketball. Thankfully, Ferrell was just shooting a scene for his new comedy Daddy’s Home, co-starring his Other Guys costar Mark Wahlberg and Linda Cardellini (who sat courtside, looking appropriately horrified). In the film, directed by Sean Anders (Horrible Bosses 2), Ferrell plays an uptight executive who is newly married to a divorced woman (Cardellini) with two children. His efforts to be a perfect stepfather are thwarted, however, when the kids’ deadbeat dad (Wahlberg) comes back into the picture.

During the basketball game scene, captured on cell phone video by a fan below, Ferrell drunkenly confronts Wahlberg about interfering with his family.

“I love my kids. And if anyone was to ever do anything to them, I would hurt them. I’d freaking hurt them,” Ferrell says in the video. He goes on to brag that he slept with his wife (and Wahlberg’s ex-wife) Sarah the night before, “so even if Sarah does pick you, you’re gonna have to be stepdad to my kid and you’re gonna see what it feels like, alright?”

The rant ends on the beautiful non sequitur, “You know what? I don’t even like fajitas!” It will all make sense in context, we’re sure. Before being escorted from the stadium, Ferrell takes two failed three-point shots, one of which knocks down a Pelicans dancer. (Watch it below.)

Never one to hesitate about making a spectacle in public, Ferrell has pulled this kind of stunt before. He’s even done it at other NBA games, posing as a security guard to escort Shaquille O’Neal from a Lakers game in 2013 (see video below) and sharing a Kiss cam moment with Stepbrothers co-star John C. Reilly in 2011.
