Who Should Star in the Film Adaptation of 'Wicked'?

June has been a big month for Broadway. Hamilton, that amazing musical you’ll never get tickets to, just cleaned up at the Tony Awards. And, it was announced that Wicked, the novel that was adapted into a billion-dollar musical, will be adapted for film.

We already know that it’s going to be directed by trash filmmaker Stephen Daldry. That’s mean. Oh, wait, I see. He directed a movie called Trash. Also Billy Elliot and The Hours, OK.

What we don’t know is the cast. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth were the original performers in the roles of Elphaba and Glinda, but they don’t seem likely to reprise ’em.

So, let’s do a little witchful, sorry, wishful thinking. Here are some actors and actresses we here at Yahoo think would be great for the three main roles of Wicked.

Glinda

For Glinda, how about Brie Larson? Lest you forget, the Oscar winner and emerging A-lister was once a pop star. Speaking of pop stars, there’s Taylor Swift. She could probably capture the spirit of the role. Phillipa Soo is someone else to consider. She’s lesser known than the others, but she’s proven her chops in Hamilton, that musical you will never get tickets to.

Elphaba

For Elphaba, Anna Kendrick makes sense. With Pitch Perfect and Into the Woods, she’s a crowd pleaser. Beyond the Lights was a well-received movie musical when it came out, and it had a lot to do with its star, Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Her ability to play someone going through emotional turmoil would be great for the part. If you want to go the pop route, Ariana Grande definitely might be someone to consider.

Fiyero

And then there’s Fiyero. Aaron Tveit won a lot of hearts on Grease Live, and he might be one of the next Broadway stars to break through to mainstream audiences. Leslie Odom Jr., one of the stars of that musical you will never get tickets to, also makes sense. And, let’s not forget his Hamilton co-star Jonathan Groff, who has Glee and Frozen credits to his name.

These Stars (and More) Should Definitely Join the Fast and Furious Franchise:
