Watch the 'Gone Girl' Cast Talk About Singing Tunes on Set

When you’re working on a film as dark as Gone Girl, you’ve got to do something to relieve the tension between takes. For Ben Affleck and Tyler Perry, singing songs like Bette Midler’s “The Rose” did the trick.

“Listen, that guy knows all of the R&B soul jams from the ‘80s,” Perry, who plays Affleck’s attorney in the film, tells Yahoo Movies. “He didn’t know I had that in me,” boasts Affleck, who says that his greatest off-camera duets with Perry include Luther Vandross and Keith Sweat. “They make an impressive duo, those two,” recalls Affleck’s onscreen twin sister Carrie Coon. Unfortunately for co-stars Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris, they didn’t get to join in on the fun. “We were like, stressed and naked most of the time,” says Harris of his scenes with the “gone girl” of the title.

Harris, of course, is the best-known singer of the cast, having recently won a Tony for his performance in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. So how would he open a Gone Girl musical? “I don’t know about an opening number,” says Harris with a sly smile, “but it got very Sweeney Todd for me, for a little while.” Watch the actors reminisce about on-set singing in our cast interview. Gone Girl hits theaters on Friday.
