What to Stream: In Honor of 'Ghostbusters,' Three Successful Movie Reboots

Did you hear they remade Ghostbusters? I know! It’s true, they really did. And here’s the thing — people like it! In honor of the successful reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise, we’re going to recommend three other reboots you can stream right now.

Star Trek

Before J.J. Abrams got his hands on it, the Star Trek franchise seemed lost in space. The films with the original cast were often more bad than they were good, and the Patrick Stewart era didn’t fare much better. But when Abrams gave us the original characters, this time on an alternate timeline, things immediately clicked, and the latest installment might be the biggest action movie of the summer. Star Trek is available to rent on YouTube.

Dredd

If you’re going to watch one Karl Urban movie, you might as well watch two. Before the New Zealand actor took on the role, Sylvester Stallone brought Judge Dredd to audiences. It went, well, you know, pretty dang poorly. But 17 years later, the gritty antihero returned. While it again suffered from bad box office, this reboot was exciting, fast-paced, and totally worth your time. Dredd is available to rent on iTunes.

Casino Royale

And finally, by the time Pierce Brosnan left the role of James Bond, the adventures of 007 seemed antiquated and silly compared with the ascending Bourne franchise. Clearly inspired by the Matt Damon-led films, the people behind Bond cast Daniel Craig in the lead role and gave the movie a more appropriately gritty feel. Casino Royale is available on Amazon.
