What to Stream: Celebrate the Summer of ’86 With These B-Movie Action Classics

Happy 30th birthday, summer of 1986! If you want some fireworks for the dog days ahead, check out these three classic action B movies that are sure to get your engine revved up.

Raw Deal

Our first choice features one of the kings of ’80s action film — Arnold Schwarzenegger — as a former FBI agent turned small-town sheriff trying to infiltrate the Chicago mob. It features all the things you love about a Schwarzenegger action flick, from the guns to the classic one-liners. Raw Deal is available to stream on Amazon.

Cobra

If you’re not familiar with producers Yoram Globus and Menahem Golan, you’ve got a wealth of ’80s schlock on your horizon. Their pièce de résistance may be this Sylvester Stallone-Brigitte Nielsen crime thriller. Sly plays Lt. Marion “Cobra” Cobretti, a renegade cop on a mission to clean up the scummy streets of L.A., one slice of pizza at a time. Cobra is available to stream on Amazon.

Maximum Overdrive

Stephen King’s prolific drug addiction hit its height while he was in the director’s chair for this Emilio-Estevez-versus-killer-trucks picture. And every aspect of the movie is as amped up as King was. It even includes an awesome theme song by AC/DC. Maximum Overdrive is streaming on Hulu.
