What Made Tyler Oakley So Nervous About His New Film 'Snervous'

Tyler Oakley built his massive Internet audience — with nearly 8 million YouTube subscribers and 6 million Instagram followers — by carefully cultivating an image of openness and honesty. For the new documentary about his life, Snervous: Tyler Oakley, the 26-year-old vlogger let somebody else dictate what ended up on screen for the first time. Watch our video interview with him above.

In Snervous, Oakley takes fans inside his ambitious national tour, in which he played to audiences of screaming teen fans across the country. He’s not an actor or a musician, so he mostly appears as himself — which often involves wearing silly onesies and firing off self-effacing jokes with his collaborators and pals. As you might expect, Oakley got quite friendly with the camera crew.

“I was so comfortable with the crew, so comfortable with the director Amy Rice, that I just kept forgetting [they were there],” Oakley told Yahoo Movies. “I would see parts, the first time I saw the movie, and I would be like, I did not remember that they were there for that moment.”

Luckily for Oakley’s fans, he forgot they were there quite often.

Snervous is now available on VOD.
