"Welcome to Earth-2" Is One of the Best Episodes of The Flash To Date

Welcome to Earth-2 is one of the strongest, most fun episodes of The Flash ever. Possibly the best episode since Out of Time in season one, this week’s wild journey was entertaining as can be, while still adding layers to the overall story.

Barry, Cisco, and Harry travel to Earth-2 in order to rescue Jessie from Zoom and close the breeches for good. Over there, nothing is as it seems, and Barry is forced to face some new, yet familiar villains. Meanwhile, a new metahuman called Geomancer threatens the Earth-1 Central City, leaving Jay to once again find a way to be The Flash.

Because a number of familiar faces gets to play very different roles, it’s hard to pick just a few stand out performances. Just about everyone who portrays an Earth-2 double is clearly having the time of their lives. (Especially Danielle Panabaker as Killer Frost, and a handful of unexpected faces) Not every double is a total opposite, but many of them are and it’s entertaining as can be.

One performance does need to be brought up though, and it is Grant Gustin’s. There are a lot of great moments for Barry in this episode, including Barry and Cisco’s reactions to pretty much everything on Earth-2. (Shout out to Carlos Valdes as well, he did great work this week. As always.) Of Gustin’s scenes, one features possibly his strongest performance to date. The moment is too wonderful to spoil, so here is a very small tease. Phone.

Welcome to Earth-2 is an Easter egg filled hour of entertainment. The stakes are bigger than ever before. And the clock is ticking, for Jessie, for The Flash and his friends, and for Earth. Both of them.
