See Zac Efron and His 'We Are Your Friends' Crew Take Our DJ Quiz

In the new music drama, We Are Your Friends, Zac Efron plays an up-and-coming DJ whose electronic beats never fail to get the crowd raving. Offscreen, though, the High School Musical star misses a few (dub)steps when it comes to identifying real-world superstar DJs. Yahoo Movies challenged Efron, as well as co-star Emily Ratajkowski (Gone Girl) and the movie’s director Max Joseph (instantly recognizable to fans of Catfish: The TV Series as Nev Schulman’s partner and cameraman), to play a game of “Bass or Bust,” which tasks them to separate authentic DJ names from fake ones. The trio start off in a good groove, correctly identifying best-selling EDM artist, Major Lazer. But from there, they struggle to stay on beat, mistakenly labeling Slime and Treasure Fingers as fictional. (On the other hand, they’re totally up to speed on their animated DJs, remembering the name of Paula Abdul’s former cartoon partner, MC Skat Kat.) Joseph fares the best overall, with Efron and Ratajkowski battling it out to avoid last place. When they make We Are Your Friends 2, the stars should probably enroll at EDM University for a quick refresher course. We Are Your Friends hits theaters on Friday.
