Watch LA Mayor Eric Garcetti Slow-Jam The 101 Freeway Closure
Sometimes you just gotta roll with whatcha feel. You dig me, Los Angeles? Ladies and gentlemen, allow us to introduce Eric Garcetti, mayor of the City of Angels, who’s out to remind everyone about this weekend’s shutdown of portions of the 101 Freeway. The major artery is being closed around downtown while workers demolish the 6th Street Viaduct, the 84-year-old bridge that has appeared in countless films, TV shows and music videos. A replacement bridge (pictured at right) is slated to open in 2019.
Garcetti got some local teens to lay down a groove and add some tender backing vocals while he slow jams the facts of the closure, which will last 40 hours before returning to normal before the Super Bowl kicks off. Just close your eyes and picture the Stylistics or the Dramatics. And if it’s a veiled nudge to NBC to return The Tonight Show to LA, then so be it.
Here’s a list of affected on- and offramps and when they’ll open and close — brought to you by that renowned local blues ensemble, the LAPD:
Northbound 6th Street/ Whittier Boulevard on-ramp will be closed from February 5 at 10 PM through February 7 at 2 PM
Northbound Euclid Street on-ramp will be closed from February 5 at 10 PM through February 7 at 2 PM
Northbound Soto Street to 101 Freeway ramp will be closed from February 5 at 10 PM through February 7 at 2 PM
Southbound Commercial Street on-ramp ramp will be closed from February 5 at 10 PM through February 7 at 2 PM
Southbound Mission Street on-ramp ramp will be closed from February 5 at 10 PM through February 7 at 2 PM
Southbound 4th Street on-ramp ramp will be closed from February 5 at 10 PM through February 7 at 2 PM
