Watch 1 Second of 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' In Advance of Tomorrow's Teaser Trailer

UPDATE: Watch the first full Rogue One: A Star Wars Story teaser trailer

ORIGINAL POST: Well, we’ve only seen one second of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story so far but we’ll tell you this: It’s about to bring a whole new meaning to the term “black stormtrooper.”

The official Star Wars YouTube channel has released a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpse at the teaser (premiering tomorrow on GMA) for the upcoming standalone film in a practice that is becoming frustratingly common in the movie marketing world. But in this case the tease-of-the-teaser at least offers up something meaty to chew on for the next 12 hours: an all-black stormtrooper lingering in the foreground while what appears to be a moisture vaporator billows black smoke behind him.

As our Marcus Errico pointed out when Rogue One star Donnie Yen leaked a photo of three of the film’s prop helmets (a photo that quickly evaporated from the ‘net itself), the black model is “slightly reminiscent of the Storm Commandos, an Imperial special-forces unit featured in several comic books and video games over the years — but even more menacing with its sleek, sharply tapered angles.”

As you’ll probably recall, the term “black stormtrooper” emerged after the first teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened with John Boyega’s Finn tearing off his helmet. It initially was a pejorative term used derisively by a small-but-loud posse of narrow-minded Star Wars fans who took exception with the casting. But it later transformed into a term of affection: Boyega giddily recalled to us that Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am once approached him at an event and marveled over meeting “the black stormtrooper.”
