Wait, There Was a 'Dumber and Dumber' Cartoon Series?

November’s Dumb and Dumber To (which just released a new TV spot) continues the misadventures of our favorite world-class idiots, Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels), but it’s not actually the first project to revisit the pair. And no, we’re not talking about the misguided prequel Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.

We’re talking about a Saturday morning cartoon spin-off that, quite frankly, we can’t remember if we never knew existed or if we just blocked it from our collective conscience. Dumb and Dumber (the title of the animated TV series) attempted to capitalize on the 1994 hit comedy, running on ABC for 13 episodes between October, 1995 and February, 1996.

You can get an idea from the clip above of what kind of hijinks were involved in the Hanna-Barbera-produced show. While the show featured more nimble and slack-jawed hand-drawn versions of Harry and Lloyd, its biggest deviation from the film was in the addition a female pet purple beaver named Kitty.

We’re sure to surprise of no one, the series was cancelled after one season, though re-runs were subsequently aired on Cartoon Network. The show was never released on home video, but if you are a Dumb and Dumber completist or just curious (hey, this guy loves it) you can watch all 13 episodes on Amazon and iTunes.
