Fox premiered its new show Pitch on Thursday. It follows the story of Ginny Baker who became the first female player in Major League Baseball. We found that Ginny became a pitcher by utilizing her secret weapon that she learned from her father. A player himself, he taught Ginny to throw the mythical and rarely used screwball.
Being the first female player wasn't a walk in the ballpark. She had to deal with rejection from her team members. She even had to brush off and inappropriate butt slap from her teammate, Mike. Mike defended his butt slap by saying, "I am an a**-slapper, rookie. I'm also the captain of this team. So from here on out, every time I slap your a**, you just say, "Thank you, sir. May I have another?" And take the mound."
After a horrendous first game, Ginny was given a second shot and a pep talk from Mike. He said, "You do this for you, you do this for your team, or you don't do it at all. 'Cause you can't aim your pitches if you're aiming to please everyone. I literally just came up with that on the spot. I mean, 'Aim your pitches, aim to please?' Damn, I'm good. I really could be in movies."
It seems she'll need more encouragement to make it in future episodes.
