'Rio 2' Celebrates Valentine's Day, Telenovela-Style

Valentine’s Day really is for the birds. And maybe for the frogs.

Rio 2,” the sequel to the 2011 animated hit, is coming to theaters this April, and it continues the story of macaws Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg) and Jewel (Anne Hathaway) who found love in the jungles of Brazil. But the sequel brings together an even more unlikely pair: returning villain Nigel the Cockatoo (voiced by Jemaine Clement from “Flight of the Conchords”) and his assistant, a poisonous tree frog called Gabi (Kristin Chenoweth). Their relationship is the highlight of two telenovela-inspired previews debuting exclusively here on Yahoo Movies.

"Rio 2" is once again directed by Carlos Saldanha ("Ice Age"), who draws on his own Brazillian heritage for the tropical films. Jamie Foxx, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Leslie Mann, and will.i.am are all returning to voice their characters from the first movie. New cast members include Bruno Mars as Jewel’s ex-boyfriend (or is it bird-friend?), Andy Garcia as her disapproving father, and Rita Moreno as her aunt Mimi.

Rio 2" opens in the U.S. on Apr. 11.
