Watch Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Others Audition to Play Ultron

James Spader has mastered the art of villainous charm, and he puts it to good use as the evil robot Ultron in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. In a performance that combines motion capture and voice-over, Spader holds his own against seasoned Marvel scene-stealers like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth. But how would a different actor have fared?

In the video above, Yahoo Movies imagines the lost Ultron auditions of Daniel Day-Lewis, Christopher Walken, and Al Pacino, among other stars. Really, it’s a shame they couldn’t each play one of Tony Stark’s rogue robots. Walken’s Ultron could tap-dance all over the Hulk — literally — while Pacino’s Ultron could use his scenery-chewing powers to decimate Stark Tower. Meanwhile, Jeff Bridges’ Ultron would probably just sit in a corner, rusting his circuits with White Russians. We only hope Joss Whedon isn’t kicking himself over all these missed opportunities — because, let’s face it, we’d all love to see Ultron drink Tony Stark’s milkshake.
