TV Ratings: 'Housewife' Leads ABC Comedy Premieres, 'This Is Us' Builds On 'Voice'

The Hollywood Reporter

With a shortened hour-long episode of The Voice airing on Tuesday, This Is Us segued into its official 9 p.m. time slot with strong retention for NBC.

In fact, the drama managed to improve on its last original showing from two weeks ago and actually build on its lead-in. This Is Is topped all other broadcast series for the night with an average 2.8 rating among adults 18-49. That figure is three-tenths of a point higher than its dipping lead-in, and has it matching its series premiere score from three weeks ago.

Chicago Fire returned to the NBC line-up with a 1.8 rating in the key demo, leading the 10 o'clock hour.

And NBC did not have the only scheduling tweaks on Tuesday. ABC finally launched its new two-hour comedy block. A shifting The Middle held reasonably well with its recent Wednesday showings, pulling a 1.7 rating in the key demo. While American Housewife modestly grew from that platform in its debut. The new half-hour averaged a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 and 6.5 million viewers, topping all other ABC comedies for the night in the key demo.

Fresh Off the Boat returned with a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 before The Real O'Neals dipped to a 1.2 rating. Agents of SHIELD closed out ABC's night with a 0.9 rating in the demo.

CBS had modest dips for NCIS (1.7 adults), Bull (1.6 adults) and NCIS: New Orleans (1.2 adults). Those stats were still enough to help the network rank No. 2 in the key demo for the night.

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl crossover event did not move the same-day dial, fetching a steady 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 for both. Scream Queens also held with a 0.7 rating in the key demo.

Over on the CW, The Flash was off from its week-ago premiere for an average 1.0 rating among adults 18-49. The second episode of No Tomorrow, meanwhile, fared even worse without competition from the vice presidential debate. It was down to a 0.3 rating among adults 18-49 and just 840,000 viewers.
