Tom Hiddleston Chooses Loki's 'Civil War' Side

Marvel fan-favorite Loki (Tom Hiddleston) will be sitting on the sidelines until he returns to action in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. But the slick-tongued trickster will no doubt be monitoring the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that unfold before then.

That includes the super-clash coming in May’s Captain America: Civil War, which will pit Team Cap (Chris Evans) against Team Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). At the press day for his new Hank Williams biopic, I Saw the Light, we asked Hiddleston if he thinks Loki has a dog in the fight.

“He’s clearly on Team Loki,” Hiddleston said with a laugh (watch above). “They were all fairly unkind to him in The Avengers, so I’m not sure he would be taking sides.

"I think he would be sitting on a rooftop somewhere enjoying the fact that the children are squabbling. Going, ‘Ah! This is entertaining.’”

Civil War divides Marvel’s A-Team when, following destruction in New York (Avengers), D.C. (Captain America: Winter Soldier) and Sokovia (Avengers: Age of Ultron), the United Nations steps in to regulate the superheroes’ vigilantism. Cap’s not having it, and getting his back are Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). Iron Man supports the legislation, and he’s backed by Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Vision (Paul Bettany), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), and Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Glorious infighting ensues.

Sitting out this round, along with Loki, are his bro Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), all of whom will be back for Ragnarok, set for release on Nov. 3, 2017.

Captain America: Civil War opens May 6. I Saw the Light is now in select theaters.
