Tom Hiddleston and These 6 Other Actors Want to Be James Bond

Daniel Craig, when faced with the possibility of playing James Bond another time, told Time Out London in October, “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists.” He did step back and say he’d actually like to be cast in the role again, but despite this — and despite the job not exactly being open — several actors have come forward saying they’d like to be Bond.

One of the Internet’s biggest crushes, Tom Hiddleston (Loki himself), is the newest Brit to join the crowd. He told the Sunday Times, “If it ever came knocking, it would be an extraordinary opportunity. And I’m very aware of the physicality of the job. I would not take it lightly.” The current favorite of bookies is another Tom — Tom Hardy. The dude wants the gig. In October, he told the Evening Standard, “I would love to do it. … If I did get the chance, I would smash it out the park.”

While Hardy has his supporters, fans have long wanted Idris Elba in the role. A Facebook page supporting him is over 30,000 people strong, and he has had a cadre of endorsements from people like Christian Bale, Pierce Brosnan, and, perhaps most importantly, Kanye West. Elba has been somewhat cagey with the rumors, but he did tell Variety in September that it would be “an amazing opportunity.”

Then there’s a trio of actors who expressed interest but probably won’t get the gig: Denzel Washington, who told Reddit to start a campaign for him; Elizabeth Banks, who said she wanted to because “why not?”; and Hugh Jackman, who said he turned down the role 10 years ago but would do it now.

David Harewood is another lesser-known actor who wants in but probably won’t land the part. The Homeland and Supergirl actor said, “There’s a queue of guys ahead of me, but I will throw my hat into the ring.”
