A Guide to the Many Accents of 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Star Tom Hardy

What’s your favorite Tom Hardy accent? Is it the southern drawl he used in Lawless? The Yinzer-brawler brogue he employed in Warrior? What about the “indistinguishable nightmare warlord” lilt he perfected while playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises?

Though the 37-year-old British actor is poised for his leading man breakout with the title role in Mad Max: Fury Road (he plays Max, not the road), Hardy’s starred in several big-time projects. But he’s always stayed a bit under the radar, and as the video above demonstrates, that’s partly because he often adapts a new accent in each film — twisting, stretching, or sometimes altogether dropping his native English enunciation from one role to the next.

Hardy does hardly any talking in Fury Road, but when he does speak, he employs a gruff, Australian growl, so you can add that accent to his long list of vacillating vocals…. if you make it out of the theater without having your mind blown.
