'Veronica Mars' Trailer Decoded: Highlights and GIFs

There is cause for rejoicing among Marshmallows: the trailer for “Veronica Mars" has been unveiled!

If you contributed to the film’s much-publicized (and highly successful) Kickstarter campaign last year, you especially should check out the trailer — after all, you helped pay for it. The big-screen debut of the world’s other great detective (played by Kristen Bell) was made possible by funds ($5.7 million, to be exact-ish) provided by fans of the mystery series that ran for three seasons on UPN and the CW from 2004 to 2007.

And “Veronica Mars” definitely looks like a labor of love that was made ‘for the fans.’ The trailer explores the film’s plot, which involves Veronica’s high school sweetheart Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) being accused of murder … but what’s most pleasing is just how many characters from the show’s dramatis personae pop up, either for several seconds or barely half of one.

Below you’ll find your guide to the highlights of the “Veronica Mars” trailer, with time code and the occasional animated GIF. Enjoy, Marshmallow.

0:13 — Jamie Lee Curtis makes an appearance as Veronica’s potential new boss (see above GIF) as she interviews at a prestigious NYC law firm. From private investigator to high-powered lawyer … is our heroine selling out? Hey, at least she might end up working for Laurie Strode.

0:26 — Veronica kisses her live-in lover and college flame, Stosh ‘Piz’ Piznarski (Chris Lowell). If you were a member of Team Piz (rather than Team Logan), this should delight you.

0:35 — The television report reveals that Logan was shacking up with some famous singer. That’s what you do when you’re the bad boy 09er son of a movie star.

0:42 — Ladies and gentlemen, Dick Casablancas (Ryan Hansen), sans shirt, with beer. We are very amused; Veronica is somewhat.

0:55 — Slo-mo shot of Logan leaning against his sweet ride as Veronica approaches him. “Nine years of radio silence and yet I still knew I could count on you” — how very meta.

0:58 — Wallace Fennel (Percy Daggs III) and Cindy Mackenzie (Tina Majorino) tell Veronica that they’re attending their high school reunion. It was probably inevitable that the movie would have a high school reunion scene (the easier to check off the list of characters, after all).

1:01 — Madison Sinclair (Amanda Noret) is still providing antagonism. We wouldn’t want her to be doing anything else, really.

1:07 — “Breaking Bad” starlet Krysten Ritter is a good sport for reprising her role as stalker victim Gia Goodwin.

1:15 — We want Dick’s belt flask.

1:22 — Leo D’Amato (Max Greenfield) looks in a file. Notice the lack of deputy uniform.

1:33 — “Stand By Me” alum (remember?) Jerry O’Connell as Sheriff Dan Lamb, brother of the late Sheriff Don Lamb (Michael Muhney). He looks to be just as easy to get along with.

1:37 — A semi-creepy look between Logan and Veronica after Keith Mars (Enrico Colantoni) points out that his daughter’s ex has some “darkness” in him. Well, yeah.

1:43 — “Wait … don’t go.” They’re totally gonna kiss n’ stuff.

1:57 — Someone gets awkwardly head-butted by someone else! It’s a mystery!

2:06 — And perhaps the greatest bit of fan service: Veronica punches Madison. In the rain. It’s noir, after all.

"Veronica Mars" opens March 14.
