The ‘Hot Tub’ Cast Explains How Its Time Travel Works, Plus Other ‘Things We’ve Always Wondered’

Now that Hot Tub Time Machine has entered the franchise ranks, Yahoo Movies decided to ask the series’ stars to explain the science behind their time-tripping device in our latest episode of ‘Things We’ve Always Wondered,’ which you can watch above. After all, if Kip Thorne and Christopher Nolan were put on the spot for Interstellar, why shouldn’t Rob Corddry, Adam Scott, and Clark Duke be held accountable for how their film’s titular tub works?

"If you pour a combination of Nitrotrinadium in a basin of water that has been heated to a specific temperature, it causes the conditions that are favorable to time travel,” Corddry explained to us, with Duke making sure to note that Nitrotrinadium is in fact just “a thing that we made up.”
