'The Finest Hours' Trailer: Chris Pine's Crazy Rescue Mission

By Denise Petski

“Conditions hazardous”. That’s an understatement. We’re getting the first look at Disney’s disaster-at sea tale The Finest Hours starring Chris Pine, Casey Affeck and Eric Bana. Based on the best-selling book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, the Craig Gillespie-helmed 3D drama chronicles the massive rescue mission launched when an oil tanker split in two off the coast of Cape Cod in 1952.

It’s Pine to the rescue as Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber, setting off in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little, if any, means of navigation, facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot high waves and hurricane-force winds. Affleck plays first assistant engineer Ray Sybert, who’s tasked with taking charge of the frightened crew and getting the men to work together to ride out one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast. Bana plays the Coast Guard Warrant Officer who orders the daring rescue mission.

Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger and John Ortiz co-star. Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson wrote the initial draft of the screenplay, and Scott Silver wrote the final version. Jim Whitaker and Dorothy Aufiero produced and Doug Merrifield exec produced. The Finest Hours storms into U.S. theaters on January 29 in Digital3D and Imax 3D.
