Just Try to Erase This Fake David Lynch 'Return of the Jedi' Trailer From Your Head

The final installment of the original Star Wars trilogy had many things going for it: Jabba the Hut, Ewoks, the defeat of the Empire. But among the things it didn’t have? Body horror, moody atmospherics, and hallucinatory moments questioning whether the Star Wars universe was really just our own hopeless reality as seen through a reversed telescope. In other words, what Return of the Jedi was really missing was director David Lynch.

It could have happened. Back in the 1980s, the Blue Velvet director revealed that he’d once been approached to direct Return of the Jedi. Lynch ultimately declined the gig and went on to direct the eternally controversial cult touchstone Dune, which came out in 1984, a year after Jedi was released.

Yesterday, however, YouTube creator C-Spit attempted to heal this breach in the space-time continuum, releasing his edit of what a Lynch Jedi might have looked like. Sit back, relax, and try not to scream when Yoda starts speaking backwards. And if you’re interested in learning more about Lynch’s Jedi, check out the full story on Dangerous Minds.
