Watch a Clip of a Fan-Made Scene From 'The Empire Strikes Back Uncut'

You know the old Jedi adage: If you love something, set it free. And if you really love something, join with other obsessive people to make your own, charmingly amateur version of that thing.

From this ancient bit of wisdom springs forth The Empire Strikes Back Uncut, a glorious patchwork production made up of tiny homemade segments of the iconic sequel submitted by over 1,500 Star Wars superfans. In this exclusive scene from the movie-collage, we find Luke Skywalker with Yoda in the swamps of Dagobah — portrayed in a couple different styles.

The Empire Strikes Back Uncut, which was produced by Lucasfilm, is the fitting follow-up to the Emmy-winning Star Wars Uncut, a little passion project by a developer named Casey Pugh that turned into an internet sensation. You can watch Pugh’s whole original on Vimeo here.

The new video’s concept is pretty simple: The producers cut up the entire film into little 15-second bits. Artists and fans claimed a segment and then reproduced it through any visual medium they wanted, from animation to live-action to stop motion. Then it all gets sewed together into one big delightful Frankenstein version of what is largely considered the greatest Star Wars film of them all (no pressure, J.J. Abrams). You can see the full Empire Uncut over at StarWars.com on Friday.
