'The Crash' First Trailer: Frank Grillo and John Leguizamo as Criminal Hackers Turned Cyber-Attack Saviors (Exclusive)

It takes a hacker to catch a hacker in The Crash, the upcoming thriller in which Frank Grillo stars as an indicted white-collar criminal enlisted by the U.S. government to help stop — and uncover the masterminds behind — the hacking of the New York Stock Exchange. It’s a cyber-saga designed to exploit Bernie Sanders-grade distrust of the American banking system, and one that, on the basis of its first trailer (watch it above), debuting exclusively at Yahoo Movies, will deliver a conspiracy-minded censure of the financial sector via a familiar genre formula.

In director Aram Rappaport’s film, Grillo’s Guy Clifton is a notorious hacker whose own daughter (AnnaSophia Robb) realizes that, ahead of his trial, he’s likely on his way to prison. That fate is delayed, however, by a massive cyber-attack on the country’s economic infrastructure, which prompts an official (played by Mary McCormack) to convince her bosses to enlist Clifton and his cadre of computer whizzes to figure out who’s behind this online crime before it throws the United States into bankruptcy. As the trailer makes clear in all too spoilery fashion, the culprits are likely the very men (including Christopher McDonald) purporting to be the attack’s victims, which only makes Clifton’s mission that much more difficult — and dangerous.
