The Band Behind the Beach Boys: Watch 'The Wrecking Crew' Clip

Beach Boy Brian Wilson says it best at the top of this exclusive clip for the forthcoming documentary The Wrecking Crew: the titular studio band, which played on countless hits of the 1960s, is “the focal point of the music.”

The Beach Boys's seminal sonic marvel Pet Sounds wouldn’t have sounded the same without the Wrecking Crew.

Members of the Los Angeles session band weren’t anywhere near as famous as the acts they backed: the Beach Boys, the Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Simon & Garfunkel, Nat King Cole, the Mamas & the Papas, John Denver, and more. But a few of the band players made the big time after stepping away from the group, the most prominent of them being country music icon Glen Campbell (pictured above during his Wrecking Crew years).

"They played so well together," Cher recalls in the documentary footage.

If you’re feeling the groove, you can listen to this Wrecking Crew playlist on Spotify and then watch the movie in theaters, on demand, and on iTunes Friday.
